A Case of Gray Syndrome

Abstract
|

|
This report presents a 1-month-old female infant with body wt. of 2.5 kg, who developed g syndrome when chloraniphenicol 150 mg (60 mg/kg) per day was administered for 3 days.
This patient who was admitted under the diagnosis of bronchopneumonia was under-developed and poorly nourished, although normal full term delivery was allegedly spoken by the infant´s mother.
When chloramphenicol administration was interrupted after the appearance of Gray Syndrome, recovery was followed without any remaining symptoms after about four days. Any signs ofhypersensitivity reaction or hypoglycemia could not be found at the appearance of Gray Syndrome.
Also in this case, the cause of Gray Syndrome was probably due to liver and renal function immaturity, because the infant was underdeveloped in spite of the fact that she was one month old.
